MIGHTY MARY is coming to a theatre near you, but you can watch the trailer right here~

Narrated by Elizabeth Banks and Hugh Jackman, directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker (and Olympian) Mary Mazzio, and produced by Mazzio along with Allison Abner (writer for Narcos, West Wing, Imperfect Women) and Atlanta Hawks owner and NBA All-Star, Grant Hill, in partnership with Skydance Sports and Paramount’s Republic Pictures, Mighty Mary chronicles an amazing group of “we eat nails for breakfast” type of women: the first all-women’s sailing team to contend for the famed America’s Cup, the holy grail for one of sport’s most elite and exclusive racing events.

“I’m proud to be a part of this powerful documentary that shines a light on the extraordinary courage of the women aboard Mighty Mary. This team was groundbreaking, and I hope their story inspires a new generation of women to dream bigger and never give up.” – Elizabeth BanksPeople Magazine

This team was groundbreaking, beginning with an advertisement in the New York Times (prompting hilarious responses from a wide swath of Americana who thought they might have what it takes to sail in the America’s Cup, including a woman flexing in a bikini next to a cactus).  From there, a group of world class and Olympic sailors as well as Olympic rowers came together, a team which included a deaf sailor, a Native Hawaiian sailor, and the first African American sailor to ever win an America’s Cup race (as a coach of this novice, erstwhile team).  What was dismissed as a publicity stunt turned into something unimaginable. This motley crew (sailing aboard Mighty Mary) stunningly eliminated Stars & Stripes from contention, helmed by 4-time America’s Cup winner, Dennis Conner (“Mr. America’s Cup”). However, a secret backroom deal the night before the race upended that result. This is a true underdog story about a team which reshaped what could be possible in a sport that had long been inaccessible.

Winner of the Maria Mitchell Visionary Award at the 2026 Nantucket Film Festival, the film will open theatrically across the country on September 11, 2026. And amazingly, on Sept 21, 2026, the America’s Cup itself will usher in the 38th running of the Cup in Naples, Italy with a signature event featuring Mighty Mary.

MIGHTY MARY TEAM CONTINUES TO INSPIRE

MIGHTY MARY, America3 All-Women's America's Cup Team, 1995

Courageous Thinking Inc. CEO and Founder Linda Lindquist is featured with her A3 team members in a new release: MIGHTY MARY: Rock the Boat.

This film chronicles the multi-faceted story of the first all-women’s sailing team to contend for the famed America’s Cup, but it is much more than that. The team that inspired women everywhere in 1995 continues to do so thirty years later.

After the Cup, Linda and A3 teammate Katie Pettibone collaborated for many years finding ways to continue inspiring women. Their shared vision resulted in the Rising Tide Leadership Institute (RTLI) which they co-founded in 2012.

Coinciding with the release of MIGHTY MARY; RTLI recently posted about the significance of their A3 experience and how they have and continue to pay it forward, which you can read here:

We hope that you will enjoy the post and see the film as well!

Introducing Rising Tide Leadership Institute

Risign Tide Leadership website

Look at what we’ve been working on!

It was a year ago that Courageous Thinking created a blog to Spotlight Katie Pettibone. Katie was in the Middle East coaching young Omani women to sail and then race in the grueling 1200 mile Sailing Arabia the Tour. Young women who had never been in a gym learned to compete against men in offshore sailing.  These young women’s lives were changed, they discovered greater potential for who they could be and they became leaders and role models for thousands of other young women. Katie and I knew we had to do something more to create opportunities through sports for women to develop into their full potential. We know that when women are elevated, the whole world wins.

So, we’ve spent the last year creating Rising Tide Leadership Institute.

RTLI website

At RTLI we believe that there is a direct correlation between the skill development required to successfully compete in high-technology sports and the skill development needed to lead and succeed in the global economy. We have built a unique global model for inspiring and equipping women leaders to compete in the global economy. Katie just landed in Kuwait to rejoin Dee Caffari and the young Omani women to continue their journey.  The Oman Sail women’s team will be competing in the Sailing Arabia the Tour 2013 starting February 12- 26th.

Come learn about the Rising Tide Leadership Institute and follow Katie, Dee and the Omani women’s adventure along the Arabian Coast.

This is going to be a blast!
